Lauren Lowe Therapy Online EMDR Therapist California

lauren nicole lowe, m.a., lmft

Hi—I’m Lauren. I am a Princeton undergraduate with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology. I’ve been working in the mental health field for over a decade and have extensive experience utilizing EMDR therapy to treat patients who suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety, various phobias, trauma and substance abuse.

My approach is practical, strength-based and solution-focused. I help my patients work through interpersonal problems, process emotions, build coping skills and self-awareness to help reduce and eliminate symptoms. Together, we find practical, meaningful, and most importantly, sustainable methods to return to functional, joy-filled lives.

I treat substance abuse and provide follow-up support to help individuals achieve long-term, satisfying sobriety. I facilitate and encourage my patients’ efforts to utilize community resources and maintain sober community ties.

I have experience as an expert witness for patients involved in legal cases resulting from injury-related trauma (PTSD from car accidents, distress from wrongful terminations, and other trauma-related psychological injuries). I have testified as an expert witness at depositions, arbitrations, and trials. I also provide formal psychological evaluations for attorneys requiring documentation of their clients’ psychological damages.

I encourage people to begin therapy when they feel they are ready. Rather than merely “co-signing victimhood,” I hold my patients accountable for their progress and help them maximize their time and resources. I challenge my patients to apply themselves throughout the therapy process so they experience the most benefits and the best results. I encourage individuals to focus on what they can control and teach tools to address difficult relationships and life situations. We learn new behaviors, boundaries, and perspectives to expedite the healing process and start to feel results as soon as possible.

I am optimistic, light-hearted and active. You could say I am a workout freak—daily gym classes, hiking, running or tennis, and nightly neighborhood walks. I love poolside sunbathing and might be known to frequent over-priced nail salons and enjoy people watching after shoe shopping at Neiman’s.

my vision + values

NO JUDGMENTS

I won’t judge you or hold you to unrealistic standards. I work with you wherever you are. I am easy to talk to and I don’t believe in pushing my beliefs onto others. We should all feel free to be who we are. I want you to feel comfortable to share whatever it is you are facing, thinking or feeling. You shouldn’t have to suppress yourself in the space where you are supposed to unburden all that!

I don’t want you to edit your authenticity. I’m here to listen, without fear of judgment. I know what it is like to hold back, or not speak your full truth because of the fear of judgment you might face from your therapist. That isn’t me. I’m not here to judge, I’m here to help you.

We are always going to feel things, and we can’t erase all negative thoughts. A bad moment doesn’t need to turn into a bad day—or week— in every other facet of your life. You can learn to experience these situations in new ways.

Our work together will get emotional at times, but as we progress the momentum from our sessions will enable you to confidently take the necessary steps to meet your goals.

I prefer to work with patients who want to focus on solutions, not blame others and ignore personal accountability. If you want to sit on a couch and cry, vent, or complain endlessly, we are probably not the right fit. Let’s focus on moving forward!

FEELINGS ASIDE

AUTHENTICITY

This isn’t about perfectionism. Just being you is enough. But you want to be the happiest version of yourself, right? Get in touch with your inner world—your needs, wants, wishes, desires and emotions. I can help free you from destructive patterns so you can transform your life for the better.

Making sense of the world we live in may never be attainable but bringing structure and order to our own lives helps us accept our limitations and embrace our strengths, which allows us to find not only our authentic selves but a happiness and wholeness we never knew existed.

Care free doesn’t mean you’re free of cares. It means you care to feel free. Freedom doesn’t mean “Me time.” It’s a reverence with something transcendent that only you can define, no matter how difficult to describe. I believe we should all discover, embrace and fine-tune radical, healthy self-expression. I encourage you to learn what you want, and then I help you to achieve it. Are you ready to create your best life?

CAREFREE

THERE IS NO GREATER JOY THAN SEEING A PATIENT FACE THEIR FEARS, ANXIETIES OR ONE OF LIFE’S MANY OBSTACLES HEAD-ON; AND DEVELOP A PLAN THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO CONTINUE TO DO SO IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS – BUT PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANTLY, WELCOME THE CHALLENGES WITH A SMILE.

I don’t dwell on the past, I focus on efficient solutions and provide structure. My goal is to get you out of therapy and on towards living your best life.
